Opportunities for Volunteers & Work Groups: 

Helping Honduras Kids seeks volunteers who have a burning desire, appropriate talents, and some background & experience to help make a positive difference in the lives of impoverished Honduran children.

Just about everyone at HHK is a volunteer with the only exceptions being our Honduran schoolteachers, dentist and the laborers who work on our construction projects.

We welcome volunteers of any race, religion or country of origin and are particularly interested in long-term volunteers.   The minimum volunteer period is typically 6 weeks. We occasionally are able to accept those who can only contribute for a shorter time, so please don’t hesitate to apply.   Volunteers of 20 years and older are preferred.

The Helping Honduras Kids programs are in the vibrant La Ceiba area of the north coast of Honduras. The jungle rivers of the Pico Bonito National Forest and the sun and sand of the Caribbean are only 15 minutes away. La Ceiba has an airport, a bus station and more taxis than anyone can count! It also has internet cafes, ATM machines and excellent medical care.

Volunteers can live with local families, on site at the Hogar de Amor or nutrition center or in small, inexpensive hostels. Some Spanish speaking ability is normally required and Central American Spanish School offers an excellent Spanish immersion program here in La Ceiba that can help you prepare for your work with the children. Volunteers can enter Honduras on a tourist visa that is renewed every 90 days. HHK volunteers pay their own traveling and incidental expenses. These are volunteer positions so there is no salary.  We can generally be flexible in accommodating your preferred starting date.

Work Groups:

Helping Honduras Kids also needs and welcomes work teams/groups to help us build and improve the various buildings where we carry out our programs. Medical and dental assistance is invaluable to us and to the children we care for. Engineers Without Borders, Medical Brigades, Religious Groups, Student teams, etc. are all invited to contact us for further information. info@helpinghonduraskids.org

Volunteer from home!

Even if you cannot come to Honduras there are ways you can help! Perhaps you can help us fund-raise, organize donations, write newsletters and more! Sponsors are continually coming up with creative and fun ideas to help children. They also encourage others to do something to make a difference. Since volunteers will be working with children, we retain the right to terminate the services of anyone insensitive to the children’s emotional and physical situation or not meeting ethical and moral standards.
