If you wish to contact any of our present sponsors in order to gain an insight into their experiences with this program, we will be gladly (with their permission) provide their email addresses. Note that unlike other child sponsorship programs, more than 96% of donated funds go directly to our children’s programs, as Helping Honduras Kids (HHK) is a volunteer organization with no salaried administrative employees and minimal overhead expenses.
Letters & Photos: Your sponsored child will be very happy to receive letters and photos from you, as this lets them know in a personal way that someone cares about them. The children will write you from time to time, but in Spanish. It’s ok to write back to your child in English. We will read these letters to your child.

Hogar de Amor at the Proyecto Lisa Lopes, Agua Caliente
What a difference a year makes! The smaller pix are from when the children first arrived at the Hogar and the larger ones are current. The first two pix on this list are of the only Hogar kids who do not yet have one sponsor. Please consider sponsoring Gerson or Moises!
These kids are thriving now due to the love, attention and hard work of the staff, volunteers and sponsors. There are still kids in this group that need a sponsor and all of these kids need at least one more.
Our monthly expense to feed, house, clothe and educate each child is about $185. This is why each child needs more than one sponsor. Please consider inviting your family, friends or co-workers to join you to sponsor a child.
These three girls (below) were students at the Jungle School. We've been aware for quite a while that their home situation was not acceptable. Recently their mother decided that the family was no longer able to care for them and we are glad that we have received approval to have them live at the Hogar. Having a sponsor who actively communicated encouragement and concern for these girls would mean the world to them and help them on the path to healing from the neglect and abuse that they have experienced.
"Grandma's Kids" and El Porvenir Kinder
Helping Honduras Kids is presently working with 4 Grandmas who are looking after children for a variety of reasons, including the death of the parents due to AIDS.
Three of these Grandmas live in the beach town of El Porvenir and between them they are looking after 28 children. One Grandma is in the mountain village of El Naranjo and has 9 children.

It is preferable to try and keep these children together in their communities rather than in institutions. Theirs is a extremely precarious life.
The managers of this project are Amalia and Charlie Kirkhum. Amalia and Charlie have registered these kids for school and are providing food, clothing, school supplies, vitamins, medicines, personal items and toys. Their new kinder in El Porvenir will soon offer English and computer classes for the older children and basic reading and writing classes for the younger children as well as a safe place to play.
We need your help in sponsoring these children to help them break the cycle of poverty, have hope for the future and the love of those who care.
