VISIT US IN HONDURAS!
Travel Info:
• To get to Honduras: American, Continental, Delta and Taca all fly from the U.S. & Canada to the city of San Pedro Sula. (Airport code SAP.) After clearing customs in San Pedro Sula, you can easily transfer to one of the local Honduran airlines listed below.
Note: From some European countries it is necessary to fly into Tegucigalpa. The airlines listed below also fly from Teguc. to La Ceiba.
Your final destination is La Ceiba (LCE). It is best to arrive in San Pedro Sula around mid-day so that you can connect with local transport to get to La Ceiba by mid-afternoon. The flight to La Ceiba (Airport code LCE) takes about 25 minutes. Fares are regulated so the airlines below charge identical rates. Reservations are strongly suggested!
• Local Honduran Airlines to bring you from San Pedro Sula to La Ceiba:
SOSA - http://www.laceibaonline.net/aerososa/sosaingl.htm
ISLENA - http://www.flyislena.com/ (Islena is a subsidiary of Taca Airlines.)
ATLANTIC - http://www.atlanticairlinesint.com/
• Bus Service to La Ceiba (from San Pedro Sula): Note that the bus station is in-town so you may have to take a taxi into San Pedro Sula to pick up the bus. Check the schedule for busses to La Ceiba that leave from the San Pedro Sula airport. The bus is air conditioned andhas a good reputation. http://www.hedmanalas.com/index.htm
• Where to stay in La Ceiba:
We work with our volunteers to arrange home-stays and other accommodations while they work at our projects. However, if you are coming for a few weeks or a few days, you may want to stay at a hostel or hotel. There are a variety of places to stay in La Ceiba along with a variety of prices. Take a look online for hotel reviews but our quick assessment is as follows:
Hostal Las Guacamayas: Among our current volunteers, this hostel gets top reviews. It has internet and a small cooking area and costs about $7.00 per night.

La Quinta or Hotel Paris: Both of these are typical hotels with a restaurant and pool on-site. They're not especially fancy but are clean and comfortable. Hotel Paris is in the center of town, just on the square. La Quinta is on the main road within walking distance to the mall. Both are fine.
Villa Helen's: Helen's is east of La Ceiba in the town of Sambo Creek. It's on the beach with a small restaurant and has a swimming pool too. Helen's is about a 7 minute drive to the Hogar de Amor and a favorite place to take our kids swimming. Some of our short-term volunteers and work groups have stayed at Helen's and report an enjoyable and comfortable stay.
There are plenty of other good places to stay and we will add to this list. Check yahoo travel http://travel.yahoo.com/p-hotel-485321-la_ceiba_hotels-i and Trip Advisor http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g292023-La_Ceiba-Hotels.html for more possibilities.
