Helping Honduras Kids values our Volunteers. HHK has many devoted and skilled VOLUNTEERS that come from all over the world to help educate and teach valuable life skills to “our” amazing children. HHK values the many devoted VOLUNTEERS that support and help to teach “our” children. We appreciate bi-lingual volunteers that are fluent in Spanish, those that are pursuing a teaching degree and desire to plan curriculumn for underpriviledged kids. HHK also appreciates volunteers that desire to share talents and skills with our children- like computers, karate, athletics etc that they are willing to share and teach “our” children. Most everyone at HHK is a VOLUNTEER, we also have volunteers that work from home that help us if they are unable to come to Honduras.
Volunteer Application: If you desire to volunteer, please fill out the HHK Application Form (click to download) and send inquiries to: volunteer@helpinghonduraskids.org. Note: Save the form to your desktop, fill it out, and then attach the form to an email. Volunteer administrative fees need to be paid on-line; just click on the Donation-Net to lock in the dates of your particular volunteer assignment. Many other non-profit organizations charge volunteers expensive administrative fees to come and work, but HHK does not. This donation helps to pay for some of the volunteer transportation costs, as well as the fees to have our staff manage various volunteer projects.
Volunteer Expenses/Rent Deposit: HHK does not pay for any volunteer housing, food or travel expenses. When a volunteer travels to Honduras, the expenses are up to the volunteer to pay. Volunteers pay for their own airplane tickets, housing, food, taxi’s and other travel-related expenses. If you will be staying at the Hogar de Amor Volunteer House, volunteers will need to send in the amount equal to your first 8 weeks ‘rent’. If you will be with us for less than 8 weeks, then you will need to pay the full amount. Please be specific about the dates you are paying for. Please contact Cristy Garrido at volunteer@helpinghonduraskids.org to make payment arrangements. You can also call Cristy in Honduras at 011-504-9499-0341. If you cannot reach her, call her sister Meily at 011-504-9983-3359.
Volunteer Liability Waiver/Safety Policy Forms: All HHK volunteers need to request and then sign a liability waiver form as well as a volunteer safety policy form agreeing to follow appropriate safety policies while visiting Honduras. All volunteers need to sign, scan and email the forms back to HHK at volunteer@helpinghonduraskids.org HHK would like all volunteers to have a safe and rewarding volunteer experience.
Visa Information: HHK has Safety Guidelines that all volunteers are required to follow. Volunteers enter Honduras on a tourist visa that they are responsible to renew every 90 days.
Emergency Medical Insurance: HHK requires that all volunteers come with emergency medical insurance policy plan. It is important before you come that you have a policy in place. Pay your premiums and be sure you have enough money available to cover the deductible amount. Most domestic insurance plans do not cover foreign travel, so check with your plan administrator to verify your coverage. Hospitals also require you to pay up-front fees and then get reimbursed by your insurance company. Emergency Air Travel also requires up-front fees to be paid. Please plan accordingly.
Special Note: For those of you who would like to copy the volunteer information only, you may do so. Because the text is white, when you copy this over to a Microsoft Word document or some other format, it will appear that nothing has happened. It will be white text on a white page. To correct this, as soon as you copy the text over to Microsoft Word, then immediately do a Ctrl A to select all the text, and then go to your formatting tool bar and choose a black or blue font color and then you will be able to see the text in Word. Then save your work to your local PC. If you have any questions or need help with this, please contact the webmaster at hhkids@sbcglobal.net.
