• Plane ticket to San Pedro Sula or Tegucigalpa, Honduras
• Plane or bus ticket to La Ceiba
• Housing & food costs calculated
• Local transport (taxis or public bus) including initial pick-up from the airport or bus station ($25.) if you will stay in El Cacao or at the Hogar. Initial pick up is free with Home-Stays in La Ceiba.
• Weekend getaways planned
• Visa renewal if you are staying over 90 days (see resource sheet for info on how to travel out of the country to have your passport stamped
• Exit tax - you will be charged $34. At the airport when you eventually leave Honduras.
Visa Information
Visa Issues: If you choose to stay longer than 90 days, it is important to factor in the costs to renew your tourist visa. Visa issues can really vary from country to country so it’s best to get advice from your own government before you come. Volunteers from most countries can enter on a tourist visa that is good for 90 days and will need nothing other than a valid passport to enter the country. If you plan to be here for more than 3 mos., you may need to leave the country for a weekend and then return. The easiest and least expensive option is to go to Belize. For those renewing their tourist visa by traveling to Belize there is the option to take a boat from Puerto Cortes about 2 hours across the Bay of Honduras.
