Helping Honduras Kids on May 7, 2007, opened its doors to its first HOGAR DE AMOR Children's Home (orphanage). The Hogar de Amor (Home of Love) is currently located in the city of La Ceiba. It currently houses 22 orphan children who live in the home, with three live-in Honduran staff and rotating international volunteers.

Helping Honduras Kid’s mission is to improve the life of orphaned, abandoned, abused and/or neglected children who otherwise would be in government institutions. The Honduran government currently does not allow adoptions from private orphanages such as ours. Therefore HHK is in great need of sponsors for the disadvantaged children. In Latin America this is called a padrino or madrina (godfather or godmother). It is very rewarding to sponsor a child in need and to know that you have been able to make a difference in helping to provide their basic needs and to improve their educational opportunities.
