Greetings from California!
From: David Ashby Sent: August 31, 2008
Good morning,
I am on vacation in California until September 18, when I will return to Honduras. I just wanted to touch base with all of our donors, sponsors and supporters.
We continue giving classes at our El Porvenir and La Bomba kinders, and at our Jungle School in the mountains behind La Ceiba, as well as at a nearly complete Jungle School Annex, located next to our Hogar de Amor orphanage. At the Jungle School, we now have 52 children in 2 classrooms, with 2 teachers and several international volunteers. A retired Major and the "delinquent" living with him have been giving us considerable trouble of late at the this school.
We continue to see many positive improvements in our 20 children at the Hogar de Amor. These children have now been separated into 4 rooms in the Lisa Lopes building, so they now have much more space compared to the 2 rooms they were previously occupying. This was necessary because of age differences and more importantly due to actions by children who have been victims of sexual abuse in their past.
I want to share with you 2 short videos made by former volunteers at our projects. The first was put together by Toshinori Ogikubo, a volunteer from NYC at our Jungle School. Go to this link to see this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbRUvfnblmw
The second video was made by Dan Collins, a volunteer at the Solares Nuevos campesino (peasant) village. The link is: http://www.facebook.com/video/video.php?v=7726456362&oid=17945906877 Due to the lenghth of this link, you may have to cut and paste it into your browser. We hope you enjoy these videos of our kids and we send our appreciation to Toshi and Dan for putting them together for all of us to enjoy.
Our organization continues to struggle financially due to the increased costs of security and food, and we urge each of you to double your efforts to find new sponsors for our children. This support is essential to the well being of our 180 children, who without us will return to lives doomed to poverty, abuse and neglect.
Thanks to each of you for your loyal support and for caring about children in another part of the world,
Dave Ashby
