A week or so ago we received an interesting email from a young woman who had previously visited Honduras and taken it

upon herself to do a project to help the children there.  We send our deepest APPRECIATION to Debby Thayer for her wonderful and thoughtful donation for the children at Helping Honduras Kids!  (Read below to see how she did it.)

Hello!
  Last summer I went on a mission trip to San Pedro Sula, Honduras. While I was there I met children who could not go to school because they couldn't afford uniforms. When I went home I thought about this injustice and what I could do to help.

I am a senior at Lake Placid High School in New York. Every senior has to do a "senior project", which can be almost anything. What I did was I raised money to buy school uniforms for children in Honduras through selling bracelets that said "Hearts for Honduras." Through the sale of these bracelets, as well as proceeds from a middle school dance, my community helped me raise $1000 dollars for school uniforms.

I feel blessed to have found Helping Honduras Kids to distribute the uniforms and give Honduran kids the educational opportunities they deserve. From the bottom of my heart I want to thank Helping Honduras Kids for all you do.

Charlie and Amalia, with the help of a Peacework volunteer group from Colorado have completely outdone themselves.  This is the most beautiful kinder in all of Honduras!!  Congratulations on a great job! 

Many thanks to the Drew University (NJ) work-group that visited the Hogar last week.  The Drew group began planting our long awaited GARDEN!!  They also installed our new tetherball set and worked to repair the swing set.  The kids are excited to use the new sandbox too!!  Special appreciation to Danielle Lambert, the student organizer and to Sandra Jamieson, their faculty escort.  Your group did a great job and we hope you'll    be back again next year!

HHK Board Member Dave Riley and his group 'Amigos of Honduras' recently returned to the U.S. after visiting the HHK projects and several others.  We are all very appreciative of Dave and Amigos for everything that they have made possible thru their ongoing support of our work!

Hey everyone, greetings.

Our trip was outstanding.  Thanks to everyone who helped make it that way.  We started out in Roatan with Valerie, then went to Ceiba on the ferry.  We spent 3 days with David visiting the Hogar and all the HHK projects and then flew into Tegoose, saw the plane on the highway and visited Carol there.  We were able to attend the inauguration of the new Amigos of Honduras school and kinder in El Negrito.  It was a humbling experience.  Amigos has now committed to water projects for two more villages.  We also visited our water project and school in Oki and the new addition at the pig farm.

The biggest difference between now and 6 months ago is that EVERYWHERE we went (and we went a lot of places) there is a feeling of helplessness because of the rise in food prices, gas and construction.  It is being felt from Coxen Hole to Portillo de la Oki.  It is a huge problem.
The HHK volunteers were great!  We worked and talked with them at the Hogar, Solares Nuevos, Jungle School and in El Porvenir.  We also spent the day with the four new ones from Chicago.  It was a ball.  They all spoke enough Spanish to really get their point across and were interacting in every case with the kids without hesitation.  The Jungle School was incredible.  The new Kinder/Nutrition Center/Day-care paid for by Lee and Ryan Daniels is incredible!  Charlie and Amalia and the volunteers there have done an amazing job.  Si, se puede!!

Thanks for all that all of you are doing to help in Honduras.  Plain and simply, there is not enough money to do everything that we would like to do.  The need is much greater than ever before because of costs skyrocketing.  Construction is having to halt at the two HHK projects because the money donated is all spent (or soon will be).   

Valerie and HHK board, the kids in Ceiba and Roatan are lucky to have all of you to help!  Carol thank you so much for your work in Comayagua.  You are sent directly from heaven!

Again thanks for everything that all of you do.  Though sometimes I get frustrated that we can't do more, I know that we are changing lives.
