The enrollment at our free Jungle School has increased this year to nearly 50 children, including kindergarten. If this school was not available, most of these children would not have an opportunity to go to classes and would be condemned to a life of poverty. Two of the Jungle School's kinder children are shown here. The little girl on the left is our newest addition, and Waldina on the right has been with us for the longest time. The Jungle School also participated in a soccer tournament in El Naranjo, and we had a great rooting section ( - - we lost).

We recently celebrated a big event at the Solares Nuevos Campesino ("peasant") village where we have been helping since last year. Our new kinder building was inaugurated with a party that included a BBQ, games and toys for the children and speeches by all. The youngest participant was all decked out in a new pink dress, and the village soccer team made an appearance.

The Hogar children have had several recent outings, including yesterday to Helen's Restaurant on the beach for swimming in the 2 pools and the ocean. The van is always packed for these trips.
Our building program has been in full swing with the recent completion of the kinder at Solares Nuevos (campesinos), the initiation of construction of our Hogar (orphanage) school the ongoing construction of our new classroom at the Jungle School and the kinder/day care in El Porvenir which is nearly finished under the watchful eye of Charlie Kirkhum.
While we are able to obtain funds for construction projects, we are experiencing some difficulty in paying the daily expenses for our 180 children. Our costs for food, salaries (teachers, housemothers, guards, maintenance men), medical attention, school uniforms and supplies, etc. now run well over $4000 per month. The Hogar de Amor is the most expensive program due to the necessity of having full time staff there day and night. We are in urgent need of funds for these daily needs, and therefore appeal to each of you for help with sponsorships and donations to operating expenses. We are confident that with your help we will get by this "bump in the road" and our children will continue to receive the quality care that we want to provide.
Thank you each for your part in helping us to make a real difference in the lives of children who are but innocent victims of a messed up society. We invite you to visit these children anytime and see for yourselves how much better off they are and what HHK is undertaking on behalf of our "kids".
