Good morning,
The holiday season is upon us and we are preparing programs and festivities for our children. We want them to learn the true meaning of Christmas as well as have some reinforcement of moral values. We recently hosted a group from a local university to speak at the Hogar de Amor (orphanage) about values. We take the children to help us distribute aid to the Campesino village to help them learn generosity and appreciate more of what they have.
We are planning holiday parties in each of our programs with an appearance by Santa Claus. The HSBC bank will be helping us with a party for the Jungle School and Hogar children on the 16th at the Hogar de Amor.
New volunteers are arriving at regular intervals, to help our children with their emotional and learning needs. Several have recently completed their time with us and we had some festivities for them at the Hogar. We are very happy and grateful that volunteers come from far away to help our children at the Jungle School and the Hogar.
This first picture is the going away party to Jesse, Josh, Patrick and Cameron. These young men attend college together in Texas and are taking a year off to journey together thu Central and South America. We are fortunate that part of their travels included a few months at the Hogar de Amor! Thank you Jesse, Josh, Patrick and Cameron - -we wish you safe travels!
This photo is from Tara's going away party. Tara joined us at the Hogar last July and returned home to Canada on the 16th of November. During her stay Tara taught the first graders at the Lisa Lopes school and lived at the Hogar to help with the care of the children. Tara is fluent in Spanish and could be found many afternoons and evenings tutoring and reading with the kids. Tara's dedication to the children, reliability and preparedness at the school and her calm, gentle demeanor are much appreciated. Tara, we miss you a lot so we hope you will be back to visit soon!
The bilingual Mazapan School in La Ceiba, via their National Honor Society, has been helping our children at the Jungle School and we had good attendance for a presentation on health issues.
Some of the Hogar children recently visited the SOS Childrens Village so they can make new friends and see another home for children at social risk.
Recently, our Hogar children went to Mango River to swim in the 2 pools and the creek which is always one of their favorite outings (5th photo).
Also, some of our Jungle School children went to Porvenir on the beach for a day of swimming in the ocean and lagoon, and the traditional french fries and rice & beans served on the beach.
Last week, some representatives from the HSBC bank visited our Jungle School. They have a foundation based in the capital city of Tegucigalpa that is studying the possibility of helping us with some of our infrastructure needs at this hillside school in the jungle.
We invite you to consider a different approach to gift giving in the coming holiday season, as some of our sponsors and donors are doing. A firm in Italy, has recently made a generous donation to HHK in lieu of its customary gifts to clients. The clients are then notified of this donation made in their name. A
sponsor is donating funds to HHK in the name of children on her gift list. These are novel ways that you too can help children in Honduras to have a better life.
We thank you for your continuing and loyal support of our children!
Dave
